Scripps Mercy- Chula Vista
Established in 1964, Scripps Mercy Hospital - Chula Vista joined the Scripps system in 1986, and is growing today in parallel with the community it serves. The hospital is home to 173 acute-care licensed beds and more than 700 employees. The hospital is one of the closest, if not the closest in the nation, hospitals to the Mexican border. Our residency service admits and cares for our clinic and other community clinic patient's. The hospital has an "open ICU" policy, allowing our medicine team to care for floor, as well as ICU patients, simultaneously. As one of only two hospitals in the South Bay region with a labor and delivery ward, it also receives a high volume of deliveries. Residents have great relationships and oppurtunities working with the specialists, including assisting with cardiac cathertizations, and procedures with the ER/IR staff.

Outside Hospitals
During their intern year, 1st year residents rotate through hospitals outside Scripps Chula Vista. These include:
Scripps Mercy San Diego- Our sister hospital, with 11 floor s of patient beds. Rotations include internal medicine, special care nursery (level II NICU), and 1 month of OB. Residents work along side Mercy internal medicine residents during their ward months.
Rady's Childrens Hospital- The San Diego and Imperial Valley pediatric tertiary care center. Interns spend 1 month of inpatient peds working with UCSD pediatric residents. As second year residents, an additional month is spent here in the pediatric ER.
