Annual Stipend
PGY1.....................$45,760/year
PGY2….................$48,630/year
PGY3….................$52,977/year

Meals
Meal cards are provided weekly upon completion of medical records.

Night and Weekend Service
A Night Float systerm is in place for weeknight call coverage. Weekends are covered on a rotating
basis by PGY2 and PGY3 Residents. The ACGME duty hours are closely followed and monitored.
Sleep rooms are available for the assigned residents on overnight call. Telephone, TV, and internet
access are available in each sleep room.

Professional Liability Coverage
Professional liability coverage is provided by Scripps for Scripps Chula Vista residents for claims that
arise out of the performance of their duties as Scripps employees.

Health Insurance
All members of the resident staff are offered health insurance benefits for themselves and their
families under the Scripps Medical Insurance Plan, including medical, dental, vision, prescription, and
chiropractic/ acupuncture plans .

Life Insurance/ AD&D
Multiple levels of employee life insurance are available, including accidental death and
dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. Supplemental spousal or dependent life insurance is also available
at various levels. Long-Term disability insurance is also available at an additional cost

Vacation
Four weeks per year (20 working days) for PGY-1, PGY-2, and PGY-3 residents. Up to 10 additional
days for personal time off (i.e. medical leave, family emergencies, illness, or holidays).

Licensure
All residents in graduate medical education programs in the State of California must possess a
California license before beginning the PGY-3 year. First year residents (PGY-1) are not eligible for
licensure in the State of California.

Fair Procedure Policy
In accordance with the "General Essentials of Accredited Residencies," published in the AMA
Directory of Residency Training Programs, Scripps has adopted procedures for: 1) residents involved
in a disciplinary action which could result in dismissal or could significantly threaten a resident's medical
career and 2) for the processing of grievances against the program or hospital. A copy of the protocol is
contained in the Housestaff Manual, given to each house officer during orientation.

Drug-Free Workplace
Scripps supports a drug-free workplace. All new employees of Scripps must pass testing for drugs,
controlled substances and alcohol prior to beginning employment; this pre-employment testing is
required of all new residents, and is performed during orientation. Scripps' policy on substance abuse
is contained in the Housestaff Manual.

Sexual Harassment Policy
Scripps' goal is to create an environment in which all employees are respected. Scripps does not
tolerate sexual harassment in the workplace. Scripps' policy on sexual harassment is contained in the
Housestaff Manual.
